Our Specialties

  • Emergency Lighting/Egress -

Inspection - Testing - Service - Sales
Hiller offers inspections, testing, and service for all of your Exit and Emergency Lighting needs in accordance with Life Safety Code 101 and OSHA requirements. Exit and emergency lighting systems are a necessary component of a fire protection plan. Your emergency lighting equipment is designed to provide illumination during power outages. Exit signs will also illuminate the paths of egress during an outage or fire emergency. These lighting systems increase your security and safety and are required (to meet current codes).
OSHA, NFPA, as well as your local fire inspector have established these standards and expect you to keep your equipment in a functional state.

Hiller can provide testing/troubleshooting for your units, replacement batteries, chargers, and bulbs, as needed to keep your emergency lighting units functioning properly.

Monthly and Annual inspection options are available to fit your specific needs.

When the power goes out, Hiller Systems can help keep you out of the dark.

  • Fire Alarm Systems

Hiller designs, installs, upgrades, tests, inspects, and services fire alarm systems.

To ensure their reliability, fire alarm systems must be inspected, tested and maintained. Hiller will set up a service program for periodic testing, inspection, and maintenance that conforms to…

- NFPA code requirements
- Local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs)
- System manufacturer's recommended inspection and maintenance requirements

  • Inspection - A regular visual examination, activation, and documentation of all devices in your system, including panels, detectors, pull stations, horns, strobes, enunciators, and door holders.

  • Testing - Annual procedures determine that the system operates as designed and include a test of monitoring connections. Sensitivity testing of every smoke detector in your system is required every two years.

  • Maintenance - The work performed to keep equipment operable, including repairs. Maintenance of your fire alarm system involves regular replacement of the 24-hour backup batteries.

  • Recordkeeping - Includes logging and retention of relevant records.

  • Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers are your first line of defense in fighting small fires and an essential part of a balanced fire protection plan. When used properly, fire extinguishers can save lives and property by putting out a small fire or controlling a fire until additional help arrives.
Consider: 94 percent of the time a portable fire extinguisher is used; it puts out the fire —typically within the initial two minutes.

  • Inspection - Inspection refers to a "quick check” of a fire extinguisher to make sure that it is available and will operate if needed. It is intended to give reasonable assurance that the fire extinguisher is fully charged and operable. The fire extinguisher must be checked to make sure it is in its designated place, and that there is no obvious physical damage or condition to prevent operation. Fire extinguishers must be inspected when initially placed in service and thereafter at 30-day intervals.

  • Maintenance - Maintenance is a thorough examination of the fire extinguisher. It is intended to give maximum assurance that a fire extinguisher will operate effectively and safely. It includes a thorough examination and any necessary repair or replacement. It will normally reveal if a recharge, six-year maintenance or a hydrostatic test is needed. Maintenance on fire extinguishers must be performed annually.

  • Recharge - A fire extinguisher must be recharged after any use. When a fire extinguisher is recharged, it is emptied of all its contents and essential component parts are dismantled, inspected and cleaned. At this time, any defective or worn parts are identified and replaced. The cylinder is then filled with the extinguishing agent, reassembled and pressurized.

  • Six-Year Maintenance - Six-year maintenance constitutes a complete maintenance of the fire extinguisher shell, component parts, and agent. The fire extinguisher must be emptied and subjected to the applicable maintenance procedures. Once the fire extinguisher has passed an internal examine, it is recharged and returned to service.

  • Hydrostatic Testing - Stored-pressure fire extinguishers must be hydrostatically tested at certain time intervals by following procedures specified by NFPA and DOT (Department of Transportation). A hydrostatic test is a "pressure test". It is performed on an extinguisher cylinder to check for structural weaknesses or flaws. An external and internal inspection of the cylinder is also performed to check for excess pitting, corrosion, or other physical deformities. Once the fire extinguisher has passed the hydrostatic testing procedure, it is recharged and returned to service.

CAD and Systems Design Capabilities

  • Fire Suppression

In addition to the detection and alarm systems, Hiller Companies can provide service of fire suppression systems of varying types depending upon the application. We work with architects, consultants or end users to determine the most cost-effective approach, providing for both life safety and equipment protection and meeting the pertinent regulations.

The fire suppression systems can utilize not only water sprinklers, but non-toxic chemicals such as FM-200, inerting gases such as Inergen™ and CO-2, foam, dry chemical or combinations of systems. Fires are suppressed in Computer Rooms, Telecommunication Facilities, Clean Room Wet Benches and Tools, Aircraft Hangers, Kitchen Hoods, Dust Collectors, Machinery, Military and Commercial Ship Engine Rooms, and Aircraft hangers.

Companies, such as Ansul, Siemens, Kidde Fire Systems are our suppliers. Hiller designs and installs the necessary suppression, detection equipment, controls, piping, and the necessary testing, required to assure our customers complete confidence on the fire suppression solution as well to complement with the necessary legal steps.

  • Hazard Analysis

The goal of a fire hazards analysis is to determine the expected outcome of a specific set of conditions called a fire scenario. The scenario includes details of the room dimensions, contents, and materials of construction; arrangement of rooms in the building; sources of combustion air; position of doors; numbers, locations, and characteristics of occupants; and any other details that have an effect on the outcome of interest.

Hiller professionals use fire hazard analysis to first determine the hazards that is present in an existing or planned facility. The second is for design, where trial design strategies are evaluated to determine whether they achieve a set of fire safety goals.
Hiller staff of professionals can provide you with a full Fire hazard Analysis of your existing builds, any new facility expansion.

  • CAD and Systems Design Expertise

Our CAD and Design teams are certified with the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technology (NICET). We have a complete staff of seasoned professionals from degreed electronic technicians to installation personnel with experience in the special hazards piping specialty, using black or galvanized steel, and stainless tubing and CPVC tube.
