Fire Detection and Alarm
The Hiller companies design, sell and install fire detection and alarm systems in the commercial, industrial and marine markets. Projects are developed by architects, consulting engineers or end users. We often aid customers in the early design stages doing hazard analyses or surveys, or design and supply a system to meet the requirements of a general specification and the pertinent regulations. Companies such as Cerberus Pyrotronics, Detector Electronics and Fire Control Instruments supply us products. The equipment we provide includes control panels, smoke detectors, gas detectors and other alarm initiating devices, early warning systems, horns and strobes. The Hiller companies provide full installation of the equipment, including necessary wiring, or simply provide the final termination and checkout. Security and communication systems can also be provided or integrated into the alarm system. We supply and install closed circuit television monitoring (CCTV), card access, sound systems, nurse call and other communication equipment. Protection is provided for commercial buildings, hospitals, nursing homes, industrial plants, casinos, and commercial, cargo and military ships.
Fire Suppression
In addition to the detection and alarm systems, the Hiller companies can provide fire suppression systems of varying types, depending upon the application. We work with architects, consultants or end users to determine the most cost effective approach, providing for life safety, equipment and structural protection meeting the pertinent regulations. For life safety and equipment protection, the fire suppression systems can utilize clean agents such as FM 200, FE 13, Inergen and CO2 or foam, dry chemical, water mist or combinations of systems. For structural protection, we can provide automatic sprinkler systems, including dry and wet pipe, water deluge, preaction and other types of water based systems. Fires are suppressed in computer rooms, telecommunication facilities, kitchen hoods, dust collectors, machinery, military and commercial ship engine rooms, aircraft hangars, and commercial and industrial facilities. The commercial, industrial and marine markets are pursued. Companies such as Ansul, Kidde-Fenwal and Chemetron supply us products. We often both design and install the necessary controls, piping, and wiring required to assure our customers complete confidence in the Hiller fire suppression system. Our strong technical staff includes professional engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers. NICET Certifications are held in Automatic Sprinkler, Fire Alarm and Special Hazards categories.
Specialty Flooring
Some of the Hiller companies are involved in the supply and installation of specialty flooring systems, usually those requiring hand troweling of the flooring materials. We work with architects and end users in the commercial, industrial and marine markets. Hiller flooring systems are installed in hospitals, grocery stores, warehouses, food processing plants, schools, and showers, kitchens and decks of military and commercial ships and casino boats. Our suppliers include Crossfield Products and American Safety Technologies. Seamless floors, antimicrobial floors, terrazzo floors, gym floors, wall systems, non-skid marine decking, chemical resistant coatings, and waterproofing are provided. We also supply and install tile and carpeting.
Insulation
One of our divisions supplies and installs insulation for military and commercial ships, including casino boats and offshore oil facilities. We work with architects, joiners, shipyards and end users to develop cost effective approaches which meet pertinent regulations for hull, piping, ducting and other insulation requirements. Our expertise includes working with the following types of insulation: fire, acoustic, thermal, mechanical, sandwich, polyimide, and removable/reversible blanket. A variety of facings are used when required, and sheathing can also be provided. For each project, a computerized material purchasing and tracking system is utilized to reduce waste. Offsite precutting and sizing is used to maximize production efficiency.
Service
The Hiller companies service what we sell. Each company has a service organization that provides routine and emergency maintenance for the fire suppression, detection and other systems supplied. We also service and recharge fire extinguishers for all market areas; including commercial buildings, restaurants, industrial plants, oil platforms and ships. Our personnel are factory trained by our key suppliers and we maintain DOT approved hydrostatic testing, dry chemical, CO2, FM200 and halon 1301 refill stations.
Commodities
The Hiller companies also sell a variety of products and parts to support our customers. These products include portable and fixed fire extinguishers, hoses, hose reels, nozzles, foam and other material and equipment involved in fire detection and suppression. We also provide safety equipment such as gloves, fire resistant clothing, safety glasses, masks, air breathing apparatus and other similar items. These products are sold from inventory or shipped directly to our customers from our vendors. Suppliers include Elkhart, Akron Brass, Survivair, Amerex and Ansul.
